JHW Inspire Academy- Meridell Campus

About JHW Inspire Academy – Meridell

BRAINATION’s Meridell Campus is housed on a scenic 63-acre ranch-style residential treatment center in Liberty Hill, Texas, 35 miles northwest of Austin. Meridell opened in 1961. The center provides services for adolescents (ages 12-17) in need of behavioral, psychiatric, neurobehavioral, and/or neuropsychiatric treatment in a therapeutic environment.

The school serves approximately 110 students from Texas and beyond, ranging from grades 5–12 in a thematic and integrated environment that enriches students’ experiences and supports accelerated learning in multi-age classrooms. The faculty and staff consist of a principal, assistant principal, registrar, ARD facilitator, special education case manager, 10 highly qualified content area teachers certified in special education, two special education inclusion teachers, and ten certified instructional assistants. All classrooms contain student computers, interactive white boards, and students have access to a variety of technology tools. Teachers employ a district curriculum that requires instructional facilitation as well as technology support. Many different educational programs are used for diagnostic testing, credit recovery, and both enrichment and acceleration purposes. They include Renaissance Star Reading and Math, Edmentum Courseware, Study Island, Education City, Virtual Job Shadow, Reading Plus, and more. The faculty provides a full educational continuum of services for students with gifted and talented needs to those of a struggling learning, RTI, 504, and special education. Of our current student population, approximately 30% receive special education services.

Teachers utilize instructional methods that include provisions for engaging, hands-on learning opportunities. We teach appropriate behavior skills and provide opportunities for students to practice these skills through courses employing Capturing Kids Hearts (Flippen) as well as 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (Covey). We also help students fall back in love with learning by providing meaningful teachable moments individualized for each student. Completed courses and credits at JHW Inspire Academy post to the student’s high school transcripts, which transfer to the student’s public and private schools throughout the USA and worldwide.

From the Principal's Desk

At the Meridell Campus, our staff is committed to building and maintaining a safe school climate that fosters compassion for others, responsible citizenship, strong community relationships, innovation, creative problem solving, and a passion for learning.

We utilize Flip Flippen’s Capturing Kids’ Hearts philosophy: “If you have a child’s heart, you have his head” (Sherwood, 2003). We provide a variety of opportunities to build and maintain positive, productive, and trusting relationships with our students, our community, and each other.

The focus at the school is on learning, rather than on doing. As a collaborative team, our staff will devote itself to helping every child achieve success. We use data to inform instruction, intervention, and enrichment. Our successes are celebrated. As well, everyone on our staff is ensured a support system with colleagues to lean on and from whom to learn.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
