We support BRAINATION and its affiliates by mobilizing resources and leveraging partnerships to promote innovative educational opportunities for all students.

About

The BRAINATION Foundation supports the mission and vision of BRAINATION, Inc. including Inspire Academies, its staff and students, and the educational needs of its youth. It provides funding for grants, scholarships, curricular and teacher support, training, and innovative programs.

Playground for Legacy Ranch Foster Children

The BRAINATION Foundation could use your help. Our project aims to construct an inviting and functional outdoor space for foster care children from kindergarten to 12th grade. This space will serve as a critical resource for promoting physical health, social interaction, and emotional well-being among foster children.

Monies raised will support the construction of the following:

🏀 Half-court Basketball Court: This is a space where children can engage in physical activity, teamwork, and the development of essential life skills.

🤸 Gaga Pit and Walking Trail: Areas for children to belong, expend energy, and enjoy the air.

About Otis Scott, Jr.

Otis L. Scott, Jr. recently joined the board in 2019 where he serves as board president. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 24 years. His performance and achievements resulted in his selection as the Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) and Command Chief for the Air Force District of Washington serving over 30,000 individuals worldwide. He holds a bachelor of science degree in management from National Louis University and earned a dual master of arts degree in human resource development and management from Webster University. He has lectured at a variety of military institutions and agencies, institutes of higher learning, and professional organizations. Scott has championed causes to develop financial support for college-bound students. He has provided career counseling to over 2,500 students. His leadership roles in the community include president of the San Antonio Advisory Board of the Texas Diversity Council, president of the 10th Security Police Association, president of SAHRMA, and board of directors for City Year. He retired at the end of 2019 from University of San Antonio as the assistant director of career services, employer relations.

About Steph West

Steph joined the board in 2021. She is a behavior specialist, social skills strategist, professional development presenter, curriculum creator, and neurodiverse advocate. She has specialist certifications in autism, behavior, traumatic brain injury, and transition services. In addition to her behavior specialist experience, Steph has public school campus administration experience. Steph earned her bachelor of arts in psychology. Later she would attend the University of North Texas, where she obtained a master of education in education administration and a master of education in special education. She is the founder and director of the Starfish Social Club.

About Shelley McCulloch

Shelley joined the board in 2021. She is a CPA, a certified internal auditor, and a chartered global management accountant, among other certifications. Currently, she is a high-performance results coach, a financial consultant, and a financial coach. Shelley also is a trainer of advanced integrative psychology. She graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a bachelor of arts in business administration with a concentration in accounting. Her volunteer experience through the San Antonio CPA Society is extensive. She served in multiple roles to include chair of the financial literacy committee, program coordinator/lead instructor for SAMMinistries money management courses, and public speaker. Shelly’s volunteerism also extended to being a financial coach for Solutions That Equip People for Success (STEPS) program. She is working on publishing a book.

About Josephine Hurtado

Josephine joined the board in 2022 after a 30-year career in engineering and construction management. Her work history includes extensive experience in estimate development, project operations, and talent management for power generation and industrial projects in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Colombia. She started as a project construction representative and subsequently served in various corporate executive positions as vice-president. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of science in civil engineering and a master of science in engineering. Her past leadership roles in the community include member of the executive committee of the World Affairs Council, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and board member of the San Antonio Council on Drug and Alcohol Awareness. She currently supports the implementation of the Chamber’s Leadership Programs and, as a STEM education advocate, works with academic institutions to grow and enhance their programs.

About Dale Addington

Dale Addington joined the board in 2026. He has a distinguished 25-year career as a U.S. Air Force officer, followed by a decade of service in education, agriculture, and community leadership. During his military career, he served in leadership positions worldwide, including aircrew operations, combat operations, and international defense assignments, and retired with the rank of Colonel. Following his military service, he became a ranch owner and operator, middle school teacher, soccer coach, volunteer firefighter, and mentor, reflecting his enduring commitment to serving others. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science in International Relations from Troy University. Dale is an active community volunteer; he serves as a tutor and mentor with local organizations, facilitates workshops at Haven for Hope, volunteers with the San Antonio Food Bank, and serves on the Educational Foundation Board of the Alamo Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. He is passionate about educational equity, civic leadership, and life literacy. Dale is dedicated to helping individuals and communities reach their full potential. 




About Chris Costley

Chris Costley is a finance professional with over 15 years of experience. He is currently the Finance Controller with Microsoft and covers the Western Region of North America and portions of Latin America. He has spent his career delivering financial support to local leaders at various data centers within the region. Chris has worked with several large local companies, including Rackspace, Clear Channel, and KCI, in different capacities supporting sales, marketing, R&D, strategic initiatives, and corporate financial planning. Additionally, Chris has consulted government agencies, small businesses, and startups regarding their finances and strategies.

Chris holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from UTSA and an MBA from St. Mary’s University.

A native of San Antonio, Chris enjoys the outdoors, sports, music, and giving back to the community.

About Justin Johnston

Justin Johnston is a visionary leader dedicated to reimagining and transforming global learning. As the Superintendent of BRAINATION’s Inspire Academies, he champions an educational philosophy that views learning as a transformative journey where every student can belong, find joy, and be great. Justin brings over a decade of administrative experience to this mission, having served 12 years as a campus administrator and four years as Head of Schools at Anne Frank Inspire Academy. Currently completing his doctorate at the University of Houston, he combines academic research with practical leadership to redefine traditional education.

About Charlotte McKinney

Charlotte McKinney joined the Board in 2026, bringing more than 25 years of leadership experience in technology, strategic planning, and organizational transformation. During her career, she has led complex enterprise initiatives, managed multimillion-dollar programs, and partnered with executive leadership to drive operational excellence and long-term organizational impact. She most recently served as Director of Information Technology at USAA, where she oversaw large-scale transformation programs, financial stewardship, and cross-functional teams. Charlotte earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Systems from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and previously held a Project Management Professional (PMP) and PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) certifications. Her community leadership includes serving as Technology Chair and Board Member for Impact San Antonio and co-founding a community STEAM program in partnership with Hondo ISD and the Hondo Public Library. A graduate of the Masters Leadership Program of Greater San Antonio (Class XXII), she is passionate about expanding educational opportunities, strengthening nonprofit governance, and advancing initiatives that create lasting impact for underserved communities.Â
